Little Black Ants
Monomorium minimum (Buckley)
Little black ants forage in trails and are frequently seen along sidewalks and concrete walls of buildings. They feed on grease, oil, meats, fruits, and vegetables but their favorite type of meal includes corn meal and sweets. They will also feed on other insects and plant matter. Little black ants are common in parks, backyards and wooded areas. Indoors, they can be found nesting in wall voids, decaying wood, and masonry.
