Ghost Ants

Tapinoma malanocephalum (Fabricus)

Ghost ants have earned their name due to the fact that they are very hard to see since they are very tiny size. Outside, ghost ants make their nests in the ground. They prefer making their nests in dead tree branches, but will also nest under stones, within piles of leaves and other debris. Ghost ants will readily enter structures by trailing from nests along sidewalks, patios and foundation walls; Inside they become a serious nuisance; nesting in wall voids, behind baseboards, between cabinets and inside the soil of potted plants. Often found in Kitchen and bathroom areas of your home; they will get into your food as well. The workers can be found traveling under carpet edges and along electrical wires in wall where they are hidden from view. They must have water to live so you will find them near water sources such as sinks, shower stalls, tubs, and potted plants.
